Being part of the first cohort of U.S./Europe Double Degree students has given me the opportunity to study in both Seville, Spain and Rome, Italy in 1.5 years. This experience is truly unique as we were able to completely immerse ourselves in the Spanish culture and were given the chance to live independent lives in Spain. After this experience I can call Seville my home. There is nothing better than loving where you live and being a part of that community. The courses at Loyola Universidad Andalusia were quite challenging but the professors were wonderful and offered assistance and were very understanding. I would highly recommend this program to students who like to work hard and play hard. My experience in Seville has been the best thus far. I will always consider Seville my home and I would love to open my home to other students looking to study abroad.

The Double Degree has a different meaning to each person that part-takes in it. Specifically for me, the Double Degree is my entire future. My European degree will allow me to more easily work in Europe after graduation and pursue my career in international business. In addition , it already has provided me with so many opportunities and learning experiences while living abroad in both Seville, Spain and Rome, Italy. I have learned first hand about two different European cultures that are entirely unique.I have improved my Spanish speaking skills and my ability to fully immerse my self in a completely new culture. I am very happy with my decision to pursue this degree as it has and will continue to open doors for me in the international market.

If I had to sum up my experience as a Double Degree student in either a word or a phrase it would be “dulce melancholy.” Dulce melancholy or a sweet sadness is, in my opinion, the prefect way to summarize all the memories I’ve had and those to come. It’s a phrase that represents the two halves of every experience, every encounter, each friend, and each lesson learned. All sweet experiences, encounters, friends, and lessons learned carry melancholy tones as they won’t last forever just as melancholy moments carry a sweetness since they too are temporary. As a Double Degree student there are many things that I have gained and lost during my travels that have left me with dulce melancholy memories. These memories will continue to push me to walk along the path that I’ve chosen into the future that awaits.
